The Global Open Science Association (GLOSA) stands as a pioneering initiative from Barcelona, with the noble aim of amalgamating efforts to enhance open science and promote active community participation. This organisation aims to empower vulnerable groups through the transformative power of knowledge and innovation while adhering to an ethos of causing no harm to living beings and the ecostystems. At its core, GLOSA’s values are integration, inclusion, and equity. It endeavours to create an environment where local communities and diverse groups are not mere participants but direct beneficiaries of scientific progress and innovative breakthroughs.
Why the Global Open Science Association?
The name GLOSA embodies our commitment to placing communities at the heart of open science. This title reflects our goal to bridge global scientific knowledge with the local needs of communities and vulnerable collectives. The term “glosa” in Spanish refers to a commentary or interpretation of a text, which metaphorically aligns with our mission: to reinterpret and expand the reach of scientific knowledge so it serves the local and global communities directly. By facilitating active participation through citizen science, we aim to extend the benefits of knowledge for their overall well-being. As we perceive it, open science is a democratising tool that allows communities to generate knowledge and actively devise solutions to their challenges. Consequently, GLOSA serves as a platform that not only disseminates science globally but also empowers local communities, enabling them to play a pivotal role in addressing their issues through access to and contributions to scientific knowledge.
Where we are?
Based in and operating from Barcelona, the Global Open Science Association (GLOSA) is poised to become a pivotal force for community-focused development and knowledge dissemination. Our international, interdisciplinary network of researchers, scholars, academics, activists, and community members leverages open science for societal good. This diverse collective enables GLOSA to extend its reach beyond local borders, addressing global challenges through innovative scientific contributions and ensuring that the benefits of such endeavours are accessible to the most vulnerable segments of society. Through these collaborations, GLOSA not only acts as a catalyst for local empowerment but also forges pathways for worldwide social change
