The Spanish Society of Scientific Documentation and Information (SEDIC) has published a monograph titled “Data sharing: what it is and how to share research data,” serving as a guide for information managers. This document, authored by Andrea Sixto-Costoya and others, explores major global and European initiatives in data sharing, as well as the necessary infrastructures and technologies for sharing research data. It also emphasizes the importance of the FAIR Principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) to ensure data accessibility and reusability.
The monograph highlights that sharing research data increases transparency and credibility, facilitates the replication of results, and promotes scientific collaboration. While not mandatory in Europe, data sharing is encouraged, especially for publicly funded research. In Spain, the State Plan for Scientific and Technical Research and Innovation 2017-2020 also promotes this practice, though still on an optional basis. This approach is crucial for advancing open science and efficiently managing scientific information.
